THE BENEFITS OF PREGNANCY EXERCISE

When going through a pregnancy, the last thing on your mind might be to exercise. Between morning sickness, preparing your home for the baby, shopping for cute baby things, food cravings, and weird things going on with your body, you might forget about the benefits of exercise.

It is extremely important that you talk to your doctor about exercise. Your doctor can recommend the frequency and intensity of your workout routine. He will also be able to recommend special exercises that will benefit you and your baby. Keep in mind that if you keep a regular workout routine prior to becoming pregnant, your doctor may alter or limit your routine to benefit the health of you and your baby. A demanding exercise routine might be great for you prior, but now it might be too much for your body and your baby to handle. The benefits of exercise below may help you decide to include a healthy exercise program. Only proceed with exercise after you have consulted your doctor and he has given his approval.

Getting a Good Nights Sleep

Sleeping may be difficult during this time. You may find it hard to find a comfortable position. Discomforts that come along with being pregnant can keep you awake. When you stick to a exercise schedule, you will exhaust more energy and sleep better at night. You might think that you are burning more energy during the day with the extra weight in your belly. But if you cannot sleep it might be your body's way of telling you that you need to get exercise.

Discomforts

There are many standard discomforts that accompany being pregnant. Stretching during exercise can help relieve back pain. Circulation can improve with regular walking. In general a healthier body can help you have a healthier baby.

Exercise Can Increase Your Energy

Whether you are pregnant or not regular exercise strengthens your cardiovascular system. A strong cardiovascular system means that you will not tire as quickly. Toned muscles require you to use less energy to complete a task. A strong cardiovascular system and toned muscles mean that you will get around and complete your daily activities easier. For this reason, it is important that you engage in an exercise program before becoming pregnant and engaging in exercise after becoming pregnant.

Prepare for Delivery

A healthy body will have the endurance and stamina necessary to get you through the delivery of your baby. The doctor might also recommend specific exercises to help you in delivery. Such as abdominal exercises and kegel exercises to help push during labor.

Self Image

If you engage in a regular exercise program you will feel better physically and mentally. Also you may not gain a lot of excess weight and you might even look healthier in general. With all the ups and downs of your emotions why not keep your body and self image in check by keeping a regular exercise schedule.

Returning to your old self

Some women get upset or even depressed after delivery of their baby. Many women have a hard time working exercising because their new baby requires so much attention. Not to mention the extra exercise to work off the extra pounds and regain muscle tone. If you maintain a regular exercise routine you will most likely have less to work to do after delivery of your baby. You will be happier with your body, and you could even have more energy and a faster postpartum recovery.
